The decisive moments in the World Rallycross Championship at KymiRing – Niclas Grönholm: “Victory is super important”
Niclas Grönholm sets out to win the World Rallycross Championship at KymiRing on August 23-24. Grönholm, representing the CE Dealer Team, is second in the World Championship, seven points behind the World Championship leader, Johan Kristoffersson from Sweden.
The championship points system has been revamped for this season. Points will only be awarded based on placings in the final and for the top three drivers in the heats. Previously points were also awarded in the semi-finals.
Success in the final, and especially winning, is emphasized. The KymiRing race plays a major role in the championship fight.
– The season is halfway through and victories are super important. After the KymiRing race, there are only two races left and now the championship is being decided. Nothing should be given to Kristoffersson, on the contrary, Niclas Grönholm reflects.
The last time the World Rallycross Championship was held in Finland was in 2020. The race in Kouvola was held under strict corona restrictions, and the public was not allowed to attend. That race was memorable for Grönholm, because he drove to victory.
– It would be great to also stand on the highest podium at KymiRing. I got a taste of that the last time we raced in Finland, Grönholm smiles.

Finns in the championship fight
The World Rallycross Championship and European Championship will continue at KymiRing in just over two weeks from 23-24 August 2025.
Finnish drivers will get to fight for series points in front of their home crowd. The points situation is exciting for Finns.
Niclas Grönholm is second in the World Championship, while another Finnish driver, Juha Rytkönen, is fifth.
In the RX1 class of the European Championship, Mika Liimatainen is second, just four points behind the series leader Yury Belevskiy from Switzerland. In 11th place in the overall points is 16-year-old motorsport promise Joni Turpeinen, who has only driven one race in the series this season. Mikko Ikonen is in 18th place in the series.

More to follow from the extra class for the audience
In addition to the World Championship and European Championship races, the KymiRing 2WD Open class will be run at KymiRing.
Finnish rallycross is currently on a good rise and we hope that KymiRing will also host high-level racing in addition to the official championships!
